Hello, this is the Alabama Rare Bird Report for Friday, September 24, 1999.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Wood Stork, Whimbrel, Baird's Sandpiper, Mourning Warbler.

NOTE:  When possible, blocks from the DeLorme Alabama Atlas will be given after the site description, with the page number followed by the block.

Though no rarities have been sighted lately, shorebird conditions are improving at Swan Creek WMA in Limestone County.  [DeLorme 18-E4]

A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at Lake Purdy on AL 119 southeast of Birmingham 9/20.   [DeLorme 31-F7]

Three AM. GOLDEN-PLOVERS, A WHIMBREL, and two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen 9/11-14 at the Harpersville sod farm in Shelby County.  Please do not walk or drive on the grass at this or any sod farm.  [DeLorme 31-H9]

A MOURNING WARBLER was discovered 9/23 in Opelika, but was not present this morning.

Conditions were good for shore and water birds 9/21 at Eufaula NWR; interesting birds included 40 WOOD STORKS, two MERLINS and two PEREGRINE FALCONS, seven AM. GOLDEN-PLOVERS, and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, most on the Kennedy Unit.   [DeLorme 54-B4/5]
