Alabama Rare Bird Report -- Monday, June 19, 2000.
HIGHLIGHTS: White Ibis, Black Scoter, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, and
Lark Sparrow.

reports are accompanied by these coordinates.
Two WARBLING VIREOS have returned to Waterloo in western Lauderdale County at the boat
ramp. [DeLorme 16-B3]
TREE SWALLOWS and LARK SPARROWS are nesting west of Florence near Key Cave NWR.

WHITE IBIS have been seen recently at Church Pond west of Florence (near Walker Pond at
Rock Primitive Baptist Church, south of Gunwaleford Road). [DeLorme 17-D6}
An AMERICAN BITTERN and two LEAST BITTERNS were found 6/11 at the swamp at Red Bank.
From the intersection of River Road and AL 101, go east about 1.5 miles. The
swamp is on the right (south) side of the road. [DeLorme 17-D10]
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER has returned west of Decatur along Finley Island Road north of
US Alt 72. [DeLorme 18-F3]
A pair of SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS has returned to the Priceville area in Morgan County.
They are along Bethel Road near Cave Springs Road between AL 67 and Upper River
Road. [DeLorme 18-G5]
SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS are nesting in Madison. Take Intergraph Road south from
the intersection with Madison Blvd. (at the railroad crossing). At the next
intersection turn left towards the golf driving course to the first large tree on the
left. [Delorme 19-E6]
Six SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS are in the vicinity of the Alabama A&M University
Experimental Station off US 431/231 and Walker Lane south of Hazel Green. [DeLorme
19-B8]
Eight immature WHITE IBIS were seen 6/17 in Bessemer at the 15th Street bridge over Valley
Creek. Take the 19th Street exit of I-20 and go north one block to turn left at
Jack's on 18th Avenue. Drive to a right turn on 15th Street; the bridge is seen in about a
half mile. [DeLorme 30-F4]
A singing LARK SPARROW was found 6/11 in Autauga County WMA. It was located in a field to
the north of Co. 66, 0.5 miles from the intersection with Co. 57. [DeLorme 44-A5]
Several SWAINSON'S WARBLERS were found recently in Autauga County. One was on Co. 61, 0.75
miles east of Co. 59 [DeLorme 45-B6]. Several Swainson's were on Co. 19; three
were 1.1 miles south of AL 82, another was 4.4 miles south of AL 82, and the last was 8.9
miles south of AL 82 [DeLorme 44-B/C4].
Four LEAST BITTERNS and 10 KING RAILS were seen recently at the Woerner Turf Farm near
Lowndesboro. Take Co. 29 through Lowndesboro from US 80. At 4.8 miles from US 80
turn right at the sign for the farm. In 3.0 miles the paved road becomes dirt. In
another 1.5 miles you reach the farm entrance on the left at a 90-degree right turn.

A male BLACK SCOTER was studied close to the beach at Ft. Morgan 6/9, about two miles east
of Mobile Point. [DeLorme 64-B5]
