Alabama Rare Bird Report – Friday, July 22, 2005.
3-4 WHITE-FACED IBIS were discovered 7/16 and seen through at least 7/17 on the large lawn adjacent to the USS Alabama battleship park in Mobile. The birds were associating when seen with, at times, over 40 GLOSSY and unidentified dark ibis. The best time to look for these and other waders at this location is likely following rain events. [DeAL 62-D4][BGtA p. 41]
A pair of GRAY KINGBIRDS with an apparent fledgling were discovered 7/18 along the coast just west of Orange Beach. The location was behind Hazel’s Seafood Restaurant on AL 182 about 1.5 miles west of the AL 161 intersection. It’s been a long time since breeding Gray Kingbirds have been seen in Alabama so this find is quite welcome! [DeAL 64-E4]
A family group of SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS was found 7/17 at Red Bay in Franklin County. The birds were on a power pole alongside AL 24, immediately in front of the McDonald's/BP, about 100 yards west of the AL 19/AL 24 intersection. The birds were seen again 7/19 in a large tree just east of the McDonald’s. [DeAL 16-H2]
