Four immature ROSEATE SPOONBILLS were discovered 8/5 at the “Sinks” pond northwest of Town Creek in Colbert County. The following day five spoonbills were seen and on 8/8 three remained to feed with many other large waders. Two BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were also seen here 8/8 along with eleven other shorebird species. A kite and stork trip from Birmingham into Perry and Hale Counties 8/6 was quite successful. Around 160 WOOD STORKS were found southwest of Marion on AL 183 between mile markers 6 and 7. Farther down AL 183 near the “Johnson Feed” sign a pair of SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS was seen again near the location of the 7/4 sighting. [DeAL 43-B6]. Later, north of Faunsdale along AL 25, at least 200 more WOOD STORKS were totalled at several different catfish ponds. [DeAL 42-B&C5]
