Dancy Quarters in Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, AL

Dancy Quarters

Just below you as you cross the southern shore of the Tennessee River at Interstate Highway 65, Dancy Quarters is home to Garth Slough and Susie Hole; both great birding spots. In years past, you could drive down to Susie Hole by turning off the boundary road, but it has since had a gate put across it as seen in the map below. Don't worry, though; it is still easy to get to; just a little bit more walking.

Map & Directions:

From the intersection on I-65 and Hwy 67 (the I-65 Priceville exit: just east of Decatur) go about 3/4 mile east, and turn left onto Bethel Road. Go straight for a little over 2 miles, and you're there. If you turn left at that point, you'll eventually find yourself back on Hickory Hill Road just off Point Mallard Parkway (Hwy 67), but there aren't that many "stopping places". If you turn right the dirt road goes on even further; not sure where it ends up!
