Town Creek Marsh in Lawrence Co, Alabama

Town Creek Marsh is an excellent place to bird. It's a little southwest of Wilson Dam. You can reach it by going north on AL 101 from Town Creek for 7-8 miles to Lawrence Co. 314. Turn left and go about 2 miles, passing the road into Doublehead Resort and crossing over a concrete bridge. Turn right at the T-intersection, and you'll immediately see a wide pulling-off area to the right that's in front of the marsh. A little bit further down the road, you can turn right onto Point Road which goes to the Point campground and restaurant area.

We asked Steve McConnell about it:
"The Town Creek Marsh (and Point) area combines a stable cattail marsh with a great river viewing area.... In winter a raft of several thousand scaup gathers out in the river. It is usually fruitful to scan these birds for rarities attracted into the group. The marsh itself has good numbers of shorebirds when the water level drops for fall and winter. Rails are also present with Sora and Virginia regular."

I'll have photos and a map here soon.
