Waterloo, in Lauderdale County, Alabama

"Waterloo is the northwestern-most town of any size in Alabama. It is reached by traveling west along the north shore of the TN River on Lauderdale Co. 14. There are several clearcuts of various ages in the hills around town that have had Bachman's Sparrows in past years. There is an excellent parking area from which to scan the river. Eagles are frequent in winter on the gravel bars. This is the most consistent place for Common Merganser (maybe in state) - find the Red-Breasted raft and look closely. Scoters/Oldsquaw are also seen sometimes along with rare gulls in the large groups which patrol."
